I've always said that my job as your MLA is clear - I work for you. As your provincial government representative, here are some of the highlights of what I have been able to accomplish on your behalf.
While these are visible accomplishments, there are many other ways I am proud to serve this community - from helping constituents when they need an advocate in government, to sitting on boards and committees. Now, as a provincial Minister, I also provide leadership to province-wide issues with a seat at the Cabinet table. I am asking for your vote in the provincial election for the opportunity to continue to serve as your MLA. In return, I offer the experience, energy and vision necessary to champion the future of our constituency. We have some urgent needs in Calgary-Shaw. The boom has not benefited everyone and more work needs to be done to strengthen the social safety net. Infrastructure issues related to rapid growth, like transportation, are a high priority in the south. We need doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, and we need a school in Silverado. The list is long and my commitment is high. With your vote, I can continue to work for you, to ensure our communities have a strong, experienced voice. Together, we can help Calgary's south reach its full potential. Cindy Ady ![]() ![]() We did it! Cindy worked hard to have 11 new schools built in Calgary-Shaw, including a new high school. Her current goal is a school for the new community of Silverado. Calgary-Shaw is the only constituency on the edge of the city that now has Public and Catholic schools for all students in the K-12 system. Cindy chaired the Standing Policy Committee on Education and Employment, which looked at access to our post-secondary schools. She also chaired a government committee to find ways to fund new school construction without raising taxes. ![]() We did it! A top priority for Cindy is ensuring access to health care. She secured provincial funding for facilities and has made significant strides in addressing staff shortages. The South Calgary Health Centre in Sundance was completed in 2004 and is a welcome addition to our area, providing urgent care, diagnostic imaging and other important services. The new hospital, currenty under construction across from Cranston, opens in 2010-2011. In addition to providing 300+ beds, it will be our "Mayo Clinic of the North," offering innovative approaches to treatment. Cindy lobbied to create 100 new seats in Alberta's medical schools and she was a part of a team that created a plan to attract 500 new doctors to Calgary. Cindy also negotiated 50 additional "spaces" for Albertans who study medicine abroad to return home for their residency. Statistics show there is a 75 percent chance they will stay in Alberta and practice here. Old policies prevented this from happening, but Cindy found a way to cut through the red tape. ![]() We did it! Because we are a rapidly growing city, traffic issues are huge for us. Safety is always at the forefront of our concerns. Cindy led the charge in removing the lights from the south part of the Deerfoot and secured funding for the three overpasses to alleviate traffic bottlenecks. She also insisted on faster action to twin the bridge over the river on Highway 22X. Cindy fought to maintain a municipal gas tax, which funded LRT service to Somerset. It also paid for major upgrades to Macleod Trail and Midnapore/Shawnessy overpass. She continues to lobby hard on behalf of constituents for the long-awaited Ring Road, which will have a dramatic impact on traffic flow in the south end of Calgary. ![]() We're on it! Although recommendations from the Royalty Review do not come into full effect until 2009, it is impacting some of Cindy's constituents today. The Premier has assured her that if there are unintended consequences to the Royalty Review, the government will look at adjustments. Before the recommendations were announced, Cindy reviewed email from constituents, many expressing concern. She has now emailed more than 300 people in Calgary-Shaw, asking them to let her know if they are negatively impacted by the recommendations. This invitation is extended to all constituents. Call or email her office today with your perspective. All points of view are welcome. She is your voice and, if re-elected, she will continue to advocate on your behalf. |
